Fresh Cranberry Slush

This is so refreshing and delicious.  We look forward to having it every year for Thanksgiving.  You will need the following ingredients:
1 pkg 12 oz. fresh cranberries
2 cups cold water
2 cups sugar
2 tsp unflavored gelatin
2 two litre bottles lemon-lime or cranberry flavored soda
In a saucepan combine water, sugar, and cranberries.  Cook over medium high heat until the skins burst.

Allow to cool slightly then buzz in your blender about a cup at a time until smooth.  Be very careful blending the hot liquid.  It can explode in your blender if you try to do too much at a time, which can be dangerous, and it makes a terrible mess.  Pour the liquid into a large container.  Soften the gelatin in about 1/4 cup of water then stir into the slush mixture until it completely dissolves.  Allow to cool completely.  Add one bottle of soda and mix well. Cover with tight fitting lid and place in the freezer.  Stir twice during the freezing process. It takes a day or two to freeze completely.  To serve, place the slush in a large punch bowl and let soften slightly.  Chop into smaller pieces and pour the other bottle of cold lemon-lime or cranberry soda into the bowl.  Stir and mash until slushy.   Serve immediately in pretty glasses.
